The Hidden Holocaust: What Christians Need to Know About Birth Control

In a culture that praises autonomy and convenience above all else, birth control has become a sacred cow—even in the church. Most don’t blink when it’s mentioned. It’s normal. It’s accepted. It’s expected. But when we begin to peel back the layers of this cultural idol, we find something horrifying at its core.

Many popular birth control methods don’t just prevent pregnancy—they end it. This is not speculation. It’s not conspiracy. It’s science. And more importantly, it’s a matter of justice, obedience, and faithfulness to God.

Life Begins at Fertilization. Period.

If you’re a Christian, this should not be up for debate. Scripture is clear that God is the Author of life (Psalm 139:13–16). From the moment of fertilization—when sperm and egg meet—a unique, living human being exists. That is not “potential” life. That is life. That child is already made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27).

But certain forms of birth control are designed to kill that child. Not before fertilization. After.

Abortifacients: The Silent Killers

Abortifacient means “causing abortion.” It refers to any drug or device that ends the life of a child after fertilization by preventing implantation in the womb. In other words, a child is conceived—and then destroyed before they ever have the chance to grow.

You won’t see it. You won’t hear it. You won’t feel it. But the murder still takes place. And just because the world calls it “healthcare” doesn’t mean God does.

Let’s be specific. Here are some of the most common abortifacient methods in circulation today:

  • Plan B (the “morning-after” pill)

  • Ella (ulipristal acetate – chemically similar to the abortion pill)

  • Hormonal IUDs (Mirena, Kyleena, Skyla)

  • Implants (Nexplanon)

  • Depo-Provera shot

  • Combination birth control pills (estrogen + progestin)

  • Emergency contraceptives in general

These methods don’t simply stop ovulation. They also thin the lining of the uterus, making it hostile to any fertilized egg—ensuring that the child cannot implant and dies as a result.

This isn’t birth control. It’s early abortion. And Christians should be the loudest voices exposing it.

Children Are a Blessing, Not a Burden

God has not changed His view on children just because our culture has. Psalm 127 tells us that children are a heritage from the Lord—a reward. From the very beginning, God commanded His people to “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28). That wasn’t a temporary suggestion for ancient times. It was a foundational command rooted in the goodness of His creation.

Yes, there may be seasons when a couple prayerfully decides to delay pregnancy. That’s not inherently sinful. But that decision must never involve the intentional destruction of life. Ever.

God-Honoring Ways to Avoid Pregnancy Without Compromising Life

Not all birth control methods are abortive. But even with non-abortive methods, our hearts must be examined.

Permissible Methods:

  • Natural Family Planning (NFP) – tracking a woman’s cycle to avoid fertile windows

  • Fertility Awareness Methods (FAM) – using knowledge of biology instead of chemicals

  • Barrier Methods – condoms or diaphragms that prevent fertilization

  • Abstinence – choosing to refrain from sexual activity during certain times

Even with these, we must ask ourselves:

  • Are we trying to control what God wants to give us?

  • Are we afraid of children?

  • Are we prioritizing our lifestyle over obedience?

The issue is deeper than just how we avoid pregnancy. It’s why.

The World Hates Children. The Church Shouldn’t.

The modern world views children as inconveniences. Costly. Annoying. Career-destroying. And tragically, many in the church have adopted the same mindset—spiritualizing selfishness under the banner of “wisdom.”

But that’s not wisdom. It’s fear. It’s pride. It’s rebellion.

God calls us to trust Him, not try to manipulate His design. He doesn’t bless murder, even when it’s wrapped in nice packaging and sold behind the pharmacy counter.

Now That You Know, You’re Accountable

Many Christians have used abortifacient birth control out of ignorance. But once the truth is known, we are no longer innocent. James 4:17 tells us plainly:
“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”

If you’ve supported or used these methods, repent. God is rich in mercy. The blood of Christ is sufficient to cover every sin—even hidden ones. But don’t remain in rebellion once your eyes have been opened. Turn from it.

Reject every form of abortion—including the quiet, clinical kind.

Honor God. Defend the Children He Creates.

Every child—from the moment of fertilization—is a living soul, knit together by the hand of God. They deserve protection, not destruction. We cannot claim to follow Jesus while participating in or endorsing the very practices that shed innocent blood.

The church must rise up and reject the modern lies of “safe” birth control that quietly kills. We must stop pretending that convenience and career and comfort are worth more than the lives of children.

Christians, be bold. Be faithful. Be different.

  • Honor God with your body.

  • Honor God with your marriage.

  • Honor God by defending the least of these—especially the ones whose deaths happen silently and unseen.
